Just a quick comment regarding PIs getting more into information security (versus internet security)….
Information security is hard. It changes so fast and there is so much to cover that, as you noted, just keeping up can be a full time job. As a information security professional I can assure you that the amount of time and effort it takes to get good at what I do is as tough as what it takes so be a really good surveillance operator.
Just like I would, in my job, hire someone to tail a subject of one of my investigations I’d encourage PIs to develop relationships with infosec professionals that can help them get through the rough spots and teach them a thing or two. You’ll probably find the infosec guys want to learn more about your world so you might be able to work something out that doesn’t involve the exchange of cash.
