Episode 21-How to screw up evidence and destroy our industry: A Rant

One of my ‘not so esteemed’ colleagues decided to post to a PI listerv his request for illegal services.  In this episode, I go off on how fools like this are destroying our industry and how we need to obtain evidence so that our clients can actually use it.  I apologize in advance, but this one really bugged me.

Great topic! Unethical P.I.’s are what destroy us all. Not only do we have to mend fences with angry clients (rightfully so) who have been harmed but also our tools that we use as P.I.’s can be taken away. I know of some adjusters who will not hire P.I.’s anymore because of bad experiences. Mostly because of lazy effort on behalf of the P.I. which I consider unethical.

Very interesting, thank you. I hope that the Bill relating to “Pretext” failed.

If it is not too much trouble I would be very pleased to receive information on the process by which Californian investigators can access vehicle records. In Western Australia we have no such access to records. Copies of forms, process, costs, safeguards etc etc would be appreciated. John, it took a huge effort on the part of PI’s here in CA, but the Pretext bill is now dead! A huge thank you to all PI’s that helped in the fight. As for DMV access, check out the California DMV website at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ and you can get the contact information to request a commercial account. Basically, you will out a form, pay a fee and are able to access limited vehicle registration and drivers license information for a small fee. There are requirements on access, use and storage of the information as well. Good Luck!
